As a new year is approaching, everyone might be thinking about new year resolutions and goals that they want to accomplish this upcoming year or the lessons they might have learned the past year. In my case, I wanted to do something different and follow the 3 thoughts that I’ve already implemented in my life into the new year.

These thoughts have changed my perspective on so many different things in life and I wanted to share them with you in today’s post. These might be things you already know but I hope they help at least one of you if you didn’t already. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading.

EXPECTATIONS LEAD TO DISAPPOINTMENTS

This is something I briefly mentioned on my blog but having expectations will inevitably lead to disappointments and that is a fact. We are all humans and at the end of the day, we do subconsciously expect something out of a situation or a person, it’s literally in our nature. However, if those expectations aren’t met or partly met – we will only end up feeling disappointed and disheartened.

There is literally no point having expectations in something you have no control of because it’s not something that you are able to change so why put that extra pressure on yourself? I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have expectations at all or having expectations is something bad, it’s actually quite the contrary.

You can have expectations but they shouldn’t define anything especially your value and worth. If they end up happening, great but if they don’t then it was clearly something that wasn’t meant for you in that moment and you can either move on from it or work harder depending on the expectation in question.

EVERYTHING CHANGES, NOTHING IS STATIC

If there is something that I’ve learned in life is the fact that everything changes whether it’s situations, environments, people or relationships. Nothing remains the same and it’s constantly changing for the better or for the worse. Many people crave changes but at the same time, they want to be in control of those changes in question which is something that can’t possibly happen because those changes aren’t even in our hands to begin with.

Whether we like it or not, things will end up changing in our lives. Sometimes, those might bring great things for us and sometimes, the complete opposite. Some might bring beautiful memories whilst others might bring valuable lessons. Instead of fearing or dreading those changes, you can learn to enjoy the present – the moment you are living in – because that’s the only thing which is not variable.

YOU DID YOUR BEST IN THAT SPECIFIC MOMENT

I’m pretty sure many of us look back at our past and wonder what could possibly have happened if we did something different or chose a different path. Would it have made things better? Would it have changed the outcome of something? Those are questions that you can never find the answer to but those questions will only end up giving you regrets if they are constantly in your mind. The only thing I can say is that you did your best with whatever information you had in that moment in your life.

If at that specific moment, you only knew certain things and couldn’t see the bigger picture which made you make a decision that wasn’t so wise then remember that you did your best in that moment. You can’t beat yourself up for not doing or seeing certain things because you didn’t even know them in the first place. I’m not saying that you should move past those regrets without looking back at them but don’t let them dictate your life. Learn from them and then move forward, there is no need to look back after that because you already learnt the most valuable lesson from that experience.
