A burger featuring pepper jam, jalapeno bacon and black truffle cheese spread has taken the crown in the 10th annual Downtown Burger Battle.
The prize goes to Crawford’s Bar & Grill, where Chef Dan Myers and the culinary team created their burger, The Truffle Jam, using a prime beef patty, toasted pretzel bun, baby arugula, tomato and pepper jam, jalapeno bacon and black truffle cheese spread.
It was served with house-fried white truffle and Parmesan potato chips.
This year’s record-setting Downtown Burger Battle drew 32 restaurant participants and resulted in more than 47,000 burgers sold, with 10 locations yet to report their final week’s numbers.
Based on that, the restaurants combined for $687,170 in sales.
Here’s a closer look at Burger Battle by the numbers:
- Most burgers sold: McKenzie River Pizza at 4,156.
- Burger brawlers: 24 people who ate and voted at all 32.
- Votes counted: 24,198.
- Website views: The Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. website collected 355,898 pages views in January compared with 167,884 last year.
Crawford’s, which usually has only one burger on the menu, plans to keep selling The Truffle Jam, at least for a while.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Myers said. “It’s projected our business sales in January and hopefully moving forward as well.
Crawford’s sold more than 2,500 burgers, he said.
Here are the remaining top five restaurants in this year’s battle:
Runner up: Falls Overlook Cafe “The BCB”
Third place: Remedy “The Rimedio”
Fourth place: TommyJack’s Pub “The Philly Burger”
Fifth place: Swamp Daddy’s “The Magnolia Burger”
With one week left, Downtown Burger Battle already smashes records
