Full Review
The story follows Riley, who is grounded after, uh, stealing her mom’s car to drive her and her bestie to see a Broadway musical in a different state 😂 This hilarious crime comes with the punishment of working at her Dad’s gaming store for eight whole weeks.
Eight weeks of hanging out with board game and table tops nerds??
She soon finds herself in a fake-dating situation trying to help her coworker and mega-nerd, Nathan, impress the girl of his dreams.
BUT WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FAKE DATE!!!
The story was so cute and precious and nerdy, I wish I had it to read when I was an awkward teen trying to figure out Magic: The Gathering and binge-watching Lord of the Rings while begging my parents to let me go to conventions
The crossover of drama kids and Dungeons and Dragons kids was perfect and made my heart melt. They shared their interests, were curious and respectful, and built new relationships together.
We also get a lot of character development from Riley dealing with her parent’s divorce to following her dreams of directing a musical production.
My inner child adored this book, which proved nerdy kids deserve love, and my adult self will continue to scream about how wonderful this story is 💘
