After Japan and the Netherlands agreed to join the US in restricting exports of advanced chip-making equipment to China, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a regular briefing on Monday that the US is “abusing export controls” and “politicizing technology and trade issues.” Mao added that the controls could “destabilize global industrial and supply chains.” The export controls are aimed at cutting off China from manufacturing advanced semiconductors after the US imposed sweeping chip sanctions on China in October. The countries did not publicly disclose the agreement reached on Jan. 27 because it is a sensitive issue, according to The New York Times.
