In a meaning of a starting point, I believe that it’s good video. It’s explaining where to start, not exactly how to start but that’s something.
But in terms of talking about designing skills, what you need and how it’s presented.. hmm in the video there is a massive mix of styles and smaller or bigger issues, like, mixing 12 and 30 frames animations, computer gliches and illustrations, icons that are in visible different and not matching styles, issues with an aligning typography with elements, gradiends that show up in price segments but not always etc.
Of course you’re talking about preparing for Upwork freelancing, but it’s not nessesary to use Adobe’s tools. There is plenty of other programs that you can use in the same terms and they won’t cost so much.
Also “be different”/”be creative”/”be original” or “master is key” it’s all really not “creative” way to direct someone. It’s so typical and nondescript. It’s all true, sure, but maybe try someting more creative than that?
You can agree with me or not, but you need way more than this to be succesful in desiging. You described this as everything that you need to know to be succesful – I would rather say “to know where to start to think about designing”. To be better, to grow and to reach some level, you need to learn fundamentals of desiging (perspective, typography, theory of colors etc.) to better understand what are you doing. You need to look up what you like to do and to specialize this path.
Understand basics, learn tools to photomanipulate/video edit/illustrate/animate/3d/make logos/presentations – to be prepared for different tasks and offers and then find your path and what you like the most (e.g. videos/logos/advertising/…) to become profesional designer.
How about corel draw isn’t applicable for graphic designing?
