We occasionally hold free member events. This Sunday, September 25, we’ll be picking and pressing apples!
The 100-tree orchard we manage is heavily burdened this year! Attendees should bring themelves, some brown paper sacks or reusable shopping bags (or whatever!), and jugs, and at the end of the day, you can take home your fill of apples and cider for your own use.
Additionally, a small group will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the orchard to clear brush, prune wild grapes, and perform other maintenance that morning. You’re welcome to join us, but no obligation! Send me an email if you’re interested and I’ll forward the info.
For picking and pressing, we’ll gather at 12 p.m. at the old Cooksville schoolhouse (11204 N. Church Street, 53536), just half a block down from the institute. We’ll then drive about a half mile to the orchard (if you’re late, refer to the directions attached to the confirmation email). We’ll have bushel boxes and pickers’ bags ready for use. We’ll spend an hour or two picking apples. Whatever we don’t send home with you or press into cider will be donated to a food pantry. We’ll head back to the institute and we’ll shred and press the apples into fresh cider. Again, please bring your own containers for cider and apples to take home. We’ll press till people have their fill or we’re tired of it.
This event is open to members. You can support the institute by joining our community with an annual membership purchased through our store or an on-going monthly contribution (starting at $3/month) through Patreon. Membership dues are tax deductible.
