I am constantly looking at places to stay and I found this gorgeous cottage on Rural Retreats. Sadly to say though, it is now fully booked until September and then the owners are moving in. (I would recommend checking often though, as cancellations do come up.) I’ll put some alternative places to stay in this area (that I have my eye on) at the bottom of this post.
Even though this cottage isn’t available for long I thought I’d still share it just in case anyone is looking for some inspo on cottage renovations or just wants a nosy. (This must have been originally two cottages that were knocked into one.)
I was immediately drawn to the cottage itself and to its wonderful location right on the River Derwent:
With fantastic bifold doors to enjoy the view and while away the time watching Mandarin ducks and the odd fisherman, it was a great place to escape. The slow-life doesn’t get much better than this…
This house is so fantastically equipped, we hardly needed to bring anything; even the utility room was a joy.
Everything is done so beautifully it really isn’t a surprise that this is going to be the owners forever-home.
Cosy evenings here were the absolute dream:
I love the way they have incorporated more modern features without sacrificing the old cottage charm…
…and the way they have opened the cottage up to let in more light:
I adored all the reading nooks and the cosy feel to the place.
It was so nice to have lots of places to curl up in; we were spoilt for choice:
Upstairs is just as lovely, with 3 double bedrooms (2 en-suite) and one family bathroom.
The exposed brick walls and beautiful bathrooms made us feel like we were in a Cotswolds hotel.
It really could not have been any better for the first staycation of the year.
They have really embraced the idea of cottage-living, making it cosy but playful and managing to create lots of different areas that flow easily from one another so that you can have a great time together or disappear for some peace and quiet, whether that be inside or out.
It really was a wonderful reminder that there are some beautiful places to stay and discover here at home.
I booked this via Rural Retreats (not sponsored) who have lots of holiday rentals in the U.K. Also on my radar and where I’d also like to stay in the Peak District are Alstonefield Cottages and Callow Hall (which is opening this Summer).
It’s crazy how so many places are booked up already but if you haven’t booked anything yet; do not fear, as I expect they’ll be a few cancellations once more countries are green-listed and there are lots of new openings this year.
