Victoria Nuland : the U.S. is ready to “ease sanctions if Russian forces leave Ukraine”

The U.S. Deputy State Department Secretary Victoria Nuland said the United States is ready to ease sanctions against Russia for the sake of “serious negotiations” on Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian troops from there. In addition, Ms. Nuland said that the Abrams tanks will not be at Ukraine’s disposal in time for its spring offensive against Russia.

“In the context of the Russian decision to engage in serious negotiations and withdraw its forces from Ukraine and return the territories, I would, of course, welcome the easing of sanctions,” Victoria Nuland said at a Senate hearing. According to Ms. Nuland, U.S.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has a similar position.

Earlier today, on January 26, the United States included the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Arkady Gostev, head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and businessman Sergei Adoniyev on the U.S.

sanctions list. Subsidiaries of Interros company, as well as companies associated with the Russian Private Military Company Wagner, also fell under the restrictive measures.

On January 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was not interested in meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and negotiating with him to resolve the conflict. He allowed for a peaceful settlement only in the event of the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territories.

Victoria Nuland is the wife of Robert Kagan, an American neoconservative of Lithuanian descent, who is famous for his strong support of U.S. military interventionism in the world.

U.S. President Joe Biden said on January 25 during a special speech to the press that the United States will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks and 8 M88 armored recovery vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces to service these tanks.

Also on January 25, the German government announced the shipment of 14 German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The information was published on January 24 by the German newspaper Spiegel. At the same time, the German authorities will give the allies permission to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
