Editor’s note: The estimated amount of gold left in Earth’s crust is 55,000 tons, not 55 tons as the video states. Business Insider regrets the error. Gold is the shining embodiment of wealth. One ounce can cost up to $1,500. But other metals that are rarer than gold are much cheaper. 1. The fact that it came from space as a result of a planetary collision makes it x10 cooler than it already was

  2. How in the God could geologists know when or if gold is running out on the crust???? Considering just how much of this Earth is still to be really explored or tested??? I’m sure they can see certain trends, but it seems crazy to think you can ascertain how much gold is left.

  3. It’s valid everycentury and nowaday it is still popular among the people. Gold has pretty much always been used by humanity to store wealth. It’s rare, it’s stable, it’s shiny and glamorous, it’s malleable, meaning it can be easily made into things like crowns. Sure, metals like osmium and uranium may be much rarer, but they don’t have the glamour of gold, plus they are rare to a point that they have little demand compared to gold.

  4. 190,000 tons have been mined, but only 55 more is left in the ground? Was that a typo and you meant to say 55,000 tons? Otherwise, you’re saying we’ve mined 99.97% of all gold?

  5. The amount of gold in the world that has been mined wouldn’t fill an Olympic swimming pool. That is why it is expensive.

    1. A friend of mine that trade with Mrs Sandra L flower
      made a profit of $500,500 with $50,000
in just 7 days of trading

    2. This unbelievable a lot of people just
mentioned exert Mrs Sandra L flower. I
      thought
was the only one trading with her.

  6. The title of this video is stupid “why is gold expensive” … you mean the same thing that was once used to literally form currency, you are asking why it’s expensive? That is ridiculous.

  7. Q) Why is gold so expensive? A) Because it is rare and our fiat currencies are practically worthless, that is why.
