  1. So you are saying you don’t want to work more than 40 hours to get ahead and you don’t want to deal with people…? 🤦🏻‍♀️
I’m sorry. This may be harsh but everything you described holds true in EVERY profession. In your 20s you have to work more than 40 hours a week to get ahead and you have to learn to deal with people. Accounting is one of the only degrees that can take you in so many different directions of different industries. I work in an industry were many of our senior managers making $500k+ a year have accounting and finance degrees and they are not CPAs. Please do not let accounting discourage you and going after other jobs you want It is a great building base!!!

    1. A really intersting comment. I just applied for my AAT Foundation in Accounting and some of my relatives who got a few years in this particular domain, they have a good life with a good financial income. After some hard work, you can build something with your work experience, especially because you have access to other businesses information.

  2. Do you have to work weekends in accounting?
What salary can I expect to make?

Should I get my doctorate in accounting to make it far in the business?

    1. This really depends on industry and I can only speak to where I work. I have never worked a weekend but I do know people who work for big 4 firms who do but it is most prominent during tax season since they have to meet a specific amount of billable hours each week. I would say salary also depends on industry and whether or not you are in public. The most common starting salary range I have heard, especially in public, is between 55k-60k (this would also depend on the location you are working).

I do not believe receiving an advanced degree will 100% guarantee a certain merit position at a company. Does it help? Of course. Is it completely necessary? No. A lot of people o know that did get their masters in accounting did it for credits in receiving here CPA. I also did a video on this recently if you want to check that out for more info!

    2. Depending on the state, you may need a masters to sit for the CPA. If you want to maximize your worth, get a CPA for any and all accounting roles. Only one of my professors was a doctor, he was the department head. Its good for academia but not necessary for work. basically get your masters and call it good. CPA is what you need as it is the gold standard for accounting knowledge. CMA is also an option… definitely an option. basically if you don’t do public accounting, CMA can add a little value to your resume but not many employers know it like a CPA. A CPA will add just as much value if not more. The reason why that is is because the exams are extremely hard to do. I’m in my last year of undergrad, have a great paying internship lined up. You can make it. Internships should be 20-25/hr depending on cost of living. and you should be making 50-60k/yr with the fulltime offer. That is for public accounting jobs. Industry will likely be lower with zero experience and you have to watch out for roles that don’t have growth potential.

  3. Last question. I know I plan on getting my Master/cpa.

I’m Workin on my bachelor’s.. Do you think I should get my bachelor’s start working and get my master’s or get my master’s then start working?

  4. Where I work at we are not very professional inside with each other like employees. When it comes to outside people then we are.

  5. What are some accounting entry-level jobs? I am a student and would like to gain experience. Thank you!

    1. Possibly accounts payable or accounts receivable. Audit and compliance position may also be available as entry level psitions.

  6. Public accounting is demanding with a lot of hours. In-house, or industry, accounting is saturated. Technology has taken over many accounting jobs. Also, if you are not a woman you will probably have a more difficult time getting a private company accounting job if your manager is a woman. (Sorry just want people to know the truth.)

  7. To even make it you have to have been studying long hours… So it’s not really something different/strange… Etc.
I’m literally drinking coffee right now 😅.

  8. Because of your number 2, I’m studying Business Administration we study every aspect of business in first 3 years and in the last year we choose specialization so I think it is better to major in Business Admin instead of directly in any field. Even that I will pursue Banking and Finance but still I’m interested in literally everything from marketing to logistics, from mis to hrm that’s why studying business administration is a better choice for anyone who’s interested in many areas.

  9. thats disappointing to hear all accountants get paid is around 50k starting out…..
i was hoping if i was to go to school for 4 years i would at least start out 70k minimum….
in chicago thats not even a middle class wage cause in chicago about 67k is considered middle class
