With the US government expected to intensify its ban on deals with Huawei by barring 4G, Wi-Fi, and AI chips, Alex Rogers, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) and Global Affairs, said during the Q1 2023 earnings call that the company does not currently envisage such changes having an impact on its shipments to Huawei. He explained that Qualcomm’s license to ship chips to Huawei is valid for several years and that the chips in question do not pose a national security threat. Huawei plans to release three new devices in 2023, namely the Huawei P60 series, Mate 60 Series, and the latest Huawei Foldable, the Mate X3. Their previous versions have used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips and Huawei’s Kirin 9000 as processors. [Gizchina]
