The review:  For the first time ever I actually considered not sharing this place with you.  It ticks so many boxes I nearly kept it to myself, I don’t want everyone to rush there at once!

There are great views of the Brecons, the upper pasture has an elevated feeling but it feels reasonably protected by the hedges and woodland.  IMG_9354

A beautiful river runs through the bottom of the valley, perfect for paddling and playing.

The facilities are minimal, but well maintained with thoughtful touches like a map of the local area and a book of local walks in the campers lounge – essentially an old loose box with chairs and a table, but could be a real boon for campers in small tents on rainy days!  There are many walks that can be taken directly from the campsite, or hop in the car to access the rest of this under appreciated National Park.

The campsite lies in a Dark Skies area, light pollution is minimal and if you are lucky enough to have a clear night the stars are fabulously bright and clear.  I sat transfixed by the fire, staring at the skies as owls hooted nearby. It really doesn’t get better than this.

The site consists of an upper and lower pasture. The upper level is easily accessible for vehicles and is close to the farmhouse and facilities. The lower level is accessible to 4×4’s and anyone willing to carry their gear down (wheel barrows are available to help).  The lower level is next to the river which can be clearly heard but is screened by woodland.  There is one secluded pitch right next to the river deep in the shade of the wooded valley.

This is a special spot, I will definitely be returning.  It better not be full!!
