Lily Armitage never intended to return to Endgame House – the grand family home where her mother died twenty-one Christmases ago. Until she receives a letter from her aunt, asking her to return to take part in an annual tradition: the Christmas Game. The challenge? Solve twelve clues, to find twelve keys. The prize? The deeds to the manor house.

So, for the twelve days of Christmas, Lily must stay at Endgame House with her estranged cousins and unravel the riddles that hold the key not just to the family home, but to its darkest secrets. However, it soon becomes clear that her cousins all have their own reasons for wanting to win the house – and not all of them are playing fair.
As a snowstorm cuts them off from the village, the game turns deadly. Soon Lily realises that she is no longer fighting for an inheritance, but for her life.

I can tell you, it’s been a while since I have inhaled by book in a day, and I’m so glad that The Christmas Murder Game broke that slumpy streak. I may be late to the book party, but this slice of cosy murderous mystery from Alexandra Benedict has weirdly gotten me in the festive mood.
With a locked-in room mystery at its core, The Christmas Murder Game is fun and gripping read, think Agatha christie’s And Then There Were None, meets Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Inheritance Games.
When Lucy Armitage’s beloved aunt dies, she is invited back to her family home, Endgame House, to take part in a festive family tradition – solve the clues and you win an extra Christmas present, BUT this year, there is no extra gift but the winner will become the sole owner of the family home where the event will take place. This sees the cousins come together, along with their partners, including rude, mean, and damn unpleasant Sara, who is jealous that her mother loved her cousin, Lily more. who doesn’t love a bit of family envy / rivalary.
With the tension ramped up from the beginning, as all who enter want to walk away the owner of this grand home, as the games begin and the clues are found, someone wants Endgame House a little *too* much, and they’re willing to spill blood for it… Not their own, obviously.
As Lily uses her fantastic set of skills to uncover the meaning behind the clues, no-one is aware that she is there fore a whole different reason, and she may be keeping a secret or two up her sleeve along with it.
The Christmas Murder Game is a fabulous read. Classical storytelling meets a contemporary page, and I just couldn’t get enough! I flew through the pages faster than Usain Bolt runs miles, and I just did not want it to end. Alexandra sewed a range of completely different characters into her storyline, and even the ones I hated, I loved to hate them!
The only thing I wish I had had when reading was a high winged armchair to sit in and a mince pie! Do yourself a favour this Christmas holidays and READ THIS DAMN BOOK!
