Strengthening International Research Data Sharing in the Social Sciences

The Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) and the International Federation of Data Organizations (IFDO) are both helping coordinate the international sharing of social science research data. This new collaboration seeks to help coordinate global research data standards for social science data archives by connecting diverse archives from large and small countries around the world to share research data policies and standards. Both organizations support the DDI Alliance. The Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) is an international standard for describing the data produced by surveys and other observational methods in the social, behavioral, economic, and health sciences. DDI is a free standard that can document and manage different stages in the research data lifecycle, such as conceptualization, collection, processing, distribution, discovery, and archiving. As a partner in this BoF the DDI Alliance will help provide a common framework for the discussions. Our joint communities are seeking input on new challenges and new advances that can help archives provide quality research data for the international community.
