Well, it’s been awhile. I never dreamed we would still still be in the same place nearly one year later.

In case you missed it, I’ve been working from home since March of last year. I spend my entire day on my work computer writing copy, sending emails and attending meetings on video so it pains me to even think about logging back on to blog at night. So sorry for the lack of posts lately.

I feel like a lot has changed in the last year. My interests have really shifted and that has been largely due to the pandemic.

The time I used to spend going out with friends, volunteering, attending community meetings, etc. has freed up. My commute is now walking from my bedroom to my living room. There are basically no events, ever. Life has continued at a slower pace.

Instead, I learned how to bake bread.

Got into making homemade pizza, and smoothies.

Like the rest of the world, I bought an Instant-Pot AND an air fryer.

I raised three bottle calves.

I’ve been really intentional about the time I spend with my friends.

I walk or hike almost every day.

I’ve started exploring the natural areas near where I live more often.

And I’ve really, really got into biking.

Previously, I was really into biking when I lived in Johnston, Iowa around 2013 (back before starting this blog) and used to ride 25+ miles three times per week. Des Moines has some of the best bike trails in Iowa so it was the perfect place to discover biking.

Since moving to southwest Iowa, I have mostly rode the Wabash Trace Nature Trail along with various trails in Council Bluffs. I also did the first day of RAGBRAI when in started in Council Bluffs a few years ago.

But with barely leaving the house this last year, biking has become my outlet. I can get on a bike, explore different towns, find new trails, meet new people and breathe fresh air. Riding my bike has become something I REALLY look forward to.

In late November, I purchased what’s called a fat bike or a ‘fat tire bike.’ Ive been joking that this bike, my Salsa Mukluk, is my one true love.

Riding this bike is not like anything else I have done before. I can ride it almost anywhere and feel like I can do anything on this bike.

Anyways, I might be sharing more of my newer interests (biking, hiking, camping) here in addition to gardening content.

What have you started doing to keep your sanity in the last year? Comment below!
