Barnsley House has been on my list of places to stay for quite sometime. It is a beautiful Cotswolds house hotel with a well-known garden.
It was so nice to stay in a hotel again, even though I was a bit apprehensive, I was really impressed that all the staff were taking precautions and I was extremely lucky to be staying in one of their self-contained suites, so did not have the need to use the more shared spaces.
The Secret Garden Suite has it’s own entrance and outside space, plus an outside bath tub so is great if you want to keep yourself to yourself or are after something a bit more secluded and romantic. I wasn’t completely enamoured by the exterior but once inside, it was so nice to have so much light coming into the room and to be able to watch the birds whilst waking up with a cup of tea.
Inside, the room is beautiful with a nice seating area, dining area, free-standing bath and separate shower room. It had been well over a year since I had last been in a hotel so I am not ashamed to admit, I was so excited I was literally dancing around the room and jumping on the bed. And wow, what a gorgeous bed it was; amazingly crisp bed linen and the most divinely comfortable mattress.
It’s a great choice if you are really hesitant about staying anywhere in Covid times (the little brown parcels in the pics are the disinfected remote controls!).
After a long Winter of being cooped-up at home, it was the absolute dream.
The house and gardens are really attractive (although some of the garden was in need of some tlc post-lockdown) and there is a small spa which you must pre-book (I left it too late).
It really is quite a magical place. I particularly love the area around the pond and the vegetable garden which is like something out of a Beatrix Potter book.
Heading inside the hotel itself, it still feels very much like a home. The communal areas are quite small and if I’m honest I think the bar area could do with an update. I do love that they’ve retained the features of the house and it feels very intimate and cosy inside.
I had a fantastic dinner here and I was really impressed with the food and menu choice (it’s worth noting though, that if you order breakfast via room service, order a few different things as the plates are quite small).
I would definitely recommend a stay at Barnsley House and would return myself as I would love to stay in the Potting Shed and go to their spa and cinema. The village of Barnsley is also really beautiful and there is lots to see in this area (some of which, I will feature in my next post).
