Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for January.

Hy-Vee

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Hy-Vee held a companywide Week of Service across its eight-state region. Twenty-five Hy-Vee employees in Sioux Falls prepared and served a meal Jan. 17 at The Banquet. Staff prepared fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and cookies for guests.

Sioux Valley Energy

Sioux Valley Energy has invested $15,000 to help the city of Colton form an economic development group. The funding comes from the co-op’s Revive 2030 program, which was designed to partner with local communities to assist with growth and development.

South Dakota Community Foundation

The South Dakota Community Foundation has awarded Early Learner SD with a $58,000 Beyond Idea Grant to support its ongoing efforts to improve access to and quality of early learning experiences and environments for children in South Dakota. With BIG funding, ELSD will use an action guide from the National League of Cities to focus on four areas: community leadership to make early childhood a priority, quality services for all children and families, neighborhoods where families can thrive and policies that support families.

Offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, the Beyond Idea Grant program supports innovative, community-based, problem-solving efforts. A total of $1.2 million will be available to nonprofits this year through the BIG program. To learn more about funding opportunities, visit sdcommunityfoundation.org.
