Hi everyone, one of our customers traded in this converted Transporter panel van by Platinum Wave Campers. So if you ever wanted to see a Pure Grey, UK specification (sliding door on the LEFT), long wheel base California – this is the closest thing you’ll find at the moment! As you can see from the video, Platinum Wave did an amazing job on this conversion! This vehicle now has a ton of non-standard options that really make it stand out. Pure Grey paint, swivel plate for the two-passenger seating, amazing upholstery on the rear seating that flips over to have a lovely suede fabric for when you’re sleeping, solar panels, heating, microwave. All absolutely stunning on a vehicle of this size. The 4 berth stealth conversion includes water tank, leisure battery, windows on both sides and Webasto heating system. The interior is finished in dark carbon fibre with ultra modern white features too. 1. You’d be surprised by how many of our customers have sworn off international travel for the long term. We’ve had customers who usually go abroad for their annual holidays who are more than happy to live the van life now. It’s great to see.

    2. @California Chris agree Chris – bought a new van in Feb and loving it. When I look at the airport chaos it makes me smile. Yes the vans are expensive and yes they’re expensive to run – but a absolute no brainier in the current climate

    3. @Shane Isham expensive! I’ve got mine raised with off road tyres meaning more expensive than usual.

But it’s a weekend bus so evens itself out

    1. You’d have to check with Platinum Wave Campers. This was only a trade in at one of our dealerships.

  1. The weight of the furniture always concerns me with the conversions – What payload are you left with after?

    1. Great question and a valid point. I bet a load of self-build converters don’t factor this in when they’re doing their builds.

    1. Oh yes! We’ve been asking for this paint option for ages. This conversion looks great in this paint.

  2. LWB transporter should be the base for the California in the future. More space, very little lose in external size. I have a custom adventure van by Cjl and it is Amazing. Wet room for all my kit and still sleeps 4 people easily. Plus 10 days battery power 😜 off grid

    1. @California Chris apart from the fact that some of the converters are producing vans that are easily as good as the california in terms of styling, fit and finish. THE PRICE, I put a california through the configurater the other day, only changed the paint colour and wheels and it was north of £75k, can we just take a minute to take that in £75k. The campervan market is massive, I see them driving about on a daily basis, do you know how many 21/22 plate californias I’ve seen on the road? 0. VW have completely priced themselves out of the market for the masses. Don’t get me wrong at roughly £55k for converted van, that’s not a cheap vehicle by any means but they have recognised that and off finance over longer terms, 7,8, 9, 10 years which make them more affordable. I have been a VW customer for several years now and currently owns a tiguan, if I walked into your dealership and said ” I have £7k a year to spend with VW get me into a newish low milage california” there would be nothing you could do to help. I’m not doubting fir 1 second that the California isn’t a great product but the pricing and short term deals means it is out of reach of 90% of your potential customers that would like a campervan

  3. Hi Chris,Really love your videos and the relaxed way you present them .Where are you based ,and when is the next C&C show in brum. Many thanks.Kevinrpointer

    1. Hi Kevin, I’m based in Wrexham VW Van Centre, but I’m sometimes in the Liverpool VW Van Centre as well. Not sure when the next Caravan & Camping show is, but it was in February this year, so I’d expect it to be around the same time next year.

  4. I wonder why VW don’t produce a fully fitted LWB as standard as I would buy one. Thanks Kevin Pointer

  5. The LWG Is the ONE I would go for in That spec, It looks Amazing, The ONLY Thing i prefer is the DSG. DARKSIDE Developments [Up North] Can do DSG Tuning and a Lot more for Longevity FOR THE GEARBOX, Also do VW/AUDI And now BMW Tuning In ALL Departments. Beautiful Van.
