I’ve always thought of small gold coins (fractional gold coins) as being way over-priced in terms of premium. But, I’m seeing some better deals lately. Is the 1/10th oz gold coin a legitimate option for stacking? I just picked up a 1/10oz American Gold Eagle, and I kind of like it. ๐Ÿ˜ NOTE: I am not a financial planner. I’m just a guy on the internet, talking about precious metals. 1. And itโ€™s very cool. I canโ€™t operate that way, though. I had a room full of LEGO bricks separated by color, size, etc. until โ€œmy sonโ€ outgrew them! ๐Ÿ˜†

  1. Those Mexican 50 pesos are a nice looking coin but are really expensive since theyโ€™re around 1.2 AGW. I have a few of the 20 peso coins which I like because they have the nice very detailed Mayan calendar on them, and are just under a half ounce (0.4823 AGW). Besides the lower cost the premium is also a lower percentage of the value than it is on the 50โ€™s. Iโ€™ve had mine for a couple years now so they were a lot cheaper when I got them, but I see them online now for around $1000.

    1. Actually you got me thinking about possibly buying some gold again. So I was poking around on eBay last night I noticed APMEX actually had a 1/10 ounce gold Libertad, Itโ€™s very similar to the design of the 50 peso but of course not exactly the same. You might consider one of those as a more affordable alternative.

  2. First year of stacking and I picked up 4oz with varying fractional of 1oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10, and 1g. I think from now on I’ll stick to quarter and halves with the option to convert to a whole 1. Thank you for your content, I’ve been binging it.

  3. The fact that you notice the coin is beat up is the same reason I avoid beat up coins. I want to be able to sell to you one day, and if you don’t want beat up coins, then I don’t want beat up coins. Spot on (no pun) on recouping the premiums on the fractional. Hopefully your kids will have a guiding instrument to let them know what that shiny little coin is, ha! Well at least you’re teaching them correctly. Nice work, dad. We are cut from the same mind-changing cloth.

    1. Itโ€™s somewhat alarming how quickly I forget the message of a video – had to rewatch this one. I definitely pick up coins I think will be very easy to sell. And I think itโ€™s more likely that my kids will be the ones doing the selling. Thanks, Vert!

    1. @2 is 1 I am up to 2 one ounce eagles a one half ounce eagle I am saving for a one ounce Maple and I feel like I’m off to a good start! Love the videos and you turned me on to the Maples!!

  4. Fractionals are really handy. Sure, you pay a chunk over spot so i only buy them in the dips but they are what i call my travel coins. I like qtrs.

When im on business abroad i always carry a couple, that way it’ss instant cash to tide me over until whatever drama has arisen sorts itself. It’s a trick i learned in the military and never forgot.
