But if more people knew the full extent of how it affects our metabolism, cardiovascular health, and risk for Alzheimer’s and dementia, we might pay more attention to it. In this episode of Health Theory, Dr. David Perlmutter returns with the latest research on how uric acid is about much more than just gout. He explains the relationship between uric acid, insulin, and fructose, why it doesn’t mean that all fruits are bad for you, and how our modern problem with uric acid is actually the result of a disconnect between evolution and environment. If you want to dive deeper into the latest knowledge bomb from Dr. Perlmutter, you’ll definitely want to check out his new book, Drop Acid: The Surprising New Science of Uric Acid – The Key to Losing Weight, Controlling Blood Sugar and Achieving Extraordinary Health Click here to pre-order: https://amzn.to/3HQykY5 SHOW NOTES: 00:00 | Introduction 00:43 | Uric Acid and Metabolism 06:42 | The Problem With Fructose 12:22 | What Does Uric Acid Do? 23:58 | Eat to Lower Uric Acid 33:43 | The Cause of Type 2 Diabetes 41:48 | The Ideal Diet & Lifestyle QUOTES: “A lot of roads lead to the Rome of inflammation, and set the stage for things like Alzheimer’s and coronary artery disease. And because of that, it’s the reason that a monotherapy or a one drug approach to Alzheimer’s, for example, is beyond myopic. It’s never going to work.” [03:02] “Our metabolic health globally is in a terrible place. I mean, a third of American adults have hypertension, and 10% of kids aged 12 to 18 have hypertension. That’s crazy. 50% of adult Americans will be obese by the year 2030. Not just overweight, but obese.” [04:16] “Elevation of uric acid is associated with an 80% increased risk of dementia, a 55% increase risk of Alzheimer’s specifically, and a 165% increased risk of vascular dementia.” [13:53] “What would be the upside of having uric acid create insulin resistance, and therefore cause blood sugar to go up? Why? Because when you’re starving, it’ll help power your brain.” [16:50] “What we’re seeing now are these metabolic derangements that underlie these diseases that represent a disconnect between evolution and environment.” [22:06] “If it has a barcode, and it’s in the grocery store, it has added sweetener – 70% do. And by and large that comes from high fructose, there’s the villain corn syrup that we subsidize to the tune of $500 billion a year.” [25:01] “Uric acid levels are climbing in lockstep with fructose consumption. In the 1920s, average uric acid level in Americans was about 3.5 – it’s now six.” [46:50] Follow Dr. David Perlmutter: Website: https://www.drperlmutter.com Twitter: https://bit.ly/3GRK37j Facebook: https://bit.ly/3Bkb8yZ Instagram: https://bit.ly/3swlmYY Order Dr. Perlmutter’s new book, Drop Acid: https://amzn.to/3HQykY5

    1. @Remi Sabourin Im not saying he is right or wrong but just because he didn’t inherit the best genes, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t speak truths. Look up Dr Peter Osborne he’s amazing

    2. NO Nitric oxide which was only ‘recently’ discovered:
      – humming produces NO thats provem … … read a book on it just recently by Jonathon Goldman

    3. @YachtblackgoldThere is contradictory evidence of that. I guess it depends on whom you want to believe. I desperately wanted to believe that no meat, no animal foods, people, but when I eat like that, my blood sugar rose, almost to the pre-diabetic range. My whole grains and legumes were shooting the blood sugar up. If I have to take those out of my diet, what am I gonna replace them with? Don’t tell me fruits and vegetables; most fruits do the same thing to my blood sugar, and even if I eat it light vegetables in any quantity at a meal, my blood sugar goes up.

  1. We must ALL demand that the food industries eliminate high fructose corn syrup OUT of our food. GET IT OUT NOW!! Please, don’t eat these foods. If the majority of people reject it then the food industry will have to change! They will change if they want to make a profit.

  2. In Russia Tsars then Communist leaders produced Vodka to drug their population ( keeping them addicted and pliant) for over 400 years. Today it is the US Government in all its corrupt creaky ” free choice” glory that has enslaved its unhealthy population to Fructose syrup . Shame!

  3. I agree with all of his medical views!!! However I share a Biblical view of our origins, not his Evolutional views of origins. Medically speaking he’s a genius! ❤

  4. Hi again just like I commented on your last program is outstanding great information but it should be broken downHi again just like I commented on your last program is outstanding great information but it should be broken down into a category where it explains The actual thing we should do in order to get healthy and some diagrams on what’s actually happening metabolically or in our stomach or you know some kind of a medical chart that shows what’s happening for us people that aren’t smart as you guys laughing in the background You know I’m enjoying this kind of stuff but it’s really hard to understand if you don’t have a ° in nutrition or medicine But thank you god bless you and what you’re doing and god bless America we need to be healthy wealthy And wise and we need to use our constitutional rights to get back our freedoms but thank you again

  5. The fact that you just sang Dave matthews made me love you even more! I love your videos. Thank you so much for your endless wealth of information!! 💜

  6. Watching Bilyeu trying to figure out what the doctor is saying is giving me a headache. That and the 50+ commercials makes your videos incredibly hard to watch

  7. I’m so curious about the role of environment and how we’ve adapted and therefore what our bodies require for optimal health. I’m someone of the African diaspora with roots in West Africa (like most of us who ended up in the Western hemisphere due to the trans Atlantic slave trade). West Africa is warm year round and food, including fruits, is abundant. Does that make a difference then in terms of what and how I should eat?
