Great interview.
Apart from the change in colour of the sovereigns it should be noted RM decided to fairly recently make the cape of St George smaller too and once again ruining a fantastic coin. This is more noticeable on a modern half sovereign. I do not know who is making these stupid decisions. For me this is desecration.

When i pay a massive premium for gold coins, i expect it to LOOK GOLD.

No real thought in creating new masterpieces for the future. The lack of new quality designs I feel is worrying 😟
Royal beasts were good but the lunars were horrific.
Also on the rm lunars the sizes were sometimes available sometimes not then cancelled ! ! !
@metalic miner what is needed is consistency in good quality and design. Design is very hard to get right but quality should not be an issue. The rm tells us they have 1000 years of history but still after all that time they are still getting it so badly wrong !
Look at Crosby theory of quality control. Basically poor management and poor products.
If this poor quality was to happen in the aerospace industry then Joe public would be running for cover every 15 mins.
@metalic miner I’m of the opinion that if you have poor management making the decisions that a company relies on is doomed. Unfortunately this can’t happen at the rm.
The rm should have quality staff no matter where they are in the UK. There is no substitute for quality management, designers, die makers and finishers. There is problems with the packaging too.
It’s the whole rm needs to be swept away with the rubbish at the end of a shift and replaced with a professional team willing and able to do the job that they get paid to do!

Quality control on Royal mint coins is pathetic. I recently bought the first two 2 ounce silver proof Harry Potter coins (actually 2 of the first one) and all had marks and scuffs – disgusting really. I had to send them back and have obviously missed out as I won’t be buying again
